All these features needed to be adjusted with some degree of degraining, color correction and sharpening. Text was often reset at a higher film resolution to look sharp. Finally, by testing onto film, we would get the best lab prints. Some of these clips are from the silent film record out files so they have an appropriate music track instead of the real audio.

ONE_RAT_SHORT
Alex wanted extremes of super black and brilliant whites. I shot small sections so we could show the director on the KEM how extreme it could look. Best of Show at Siggraph.
BAGHEAD
Big hit at Sundance and bought by SONY CLASSICS.  I used Apple's color and After Effects.
ATTIC
Mary Lamberts' Gothic Horror Tale of Agoraphobia with great performances by John Savage and Elizabeth Moss. I used After Effects for lots of day for night, vignetting, power windows, extra lighting effects, muzzle flashes and ghosts.

"Biscando a Miguel " is Juan Fischer's brilliant satire on Colombian society. I did  retouching, color timing and speed effects.

A romantic drama starring Sean Patrick Flanery and Emily Carpenter. Beautifully shot in 35mm detailing the disintegration of a southern marriage. Final Cut Pro with Color created a lush Georgian landscape.

 Documentary maker Morgan Spurlock lives on a diet of nothing but McDonald's food for a month while questioning American eating habits. Huge hit and made $11,536,423. Timed and sharpened with  After Effects.

David Moscow is an Hollywood agent who goes looking for Ben Gazarra in Guatemala. I imported and optimized the master DPX files into After Effects to make the picture look great on the big screen.

Agustin's nice Latino story of a little girl saving her family's Christmas. The movie was beautifully shot with Vari-Cam and then edited in SD in Avid. I recaptured the tapes using the EDL onto our server in HD and after timing in FCP recorded the show back to HDCAM.

A DV documentary about the fanatical fans of the 2007 championship Chilean Soccer team. With interviews and stadium crowds, soccer is more than a game. The final movie played all over Chilean with great attendance.
Love in the Age of Dion
By using DV anamorphic this feature by Philip Cioffari looks like super 16mm. I used subtle vignetting to push the actors and actresses into the light and darken the sets.

"SHADOW" GRINDHOUSE VERSION
Chicks in prison with zombies ready to kill them! Rebuilt to look aged but gently scratched. Huge render time to create all the moods for each scene so the effects are apparent but not distracting. Just like a 42nd Street movie.
ROYAL KILL
 A high school teenage girl in America finds out that she is the last living heir to the Kingdom of Samarza. Apple's Color does its' best!
OVERBROOK BROTHERS
A brothers comedy by director John Bryant and producer Chris Olsen. Apple's Color again.
REDEMPTION ROAD
Amazing DV documentary from Liberia on how the people toppled the dictator Taylor and began the healing of peace. I used Apple's Color, FCP and After Effects.
PRICE OF SUGAR
DV documentary from Dominican Republic on the plight of the sugar cane workers. All the footage was DV and needed a lot of sharpening, noise reduction and FCP color timing.
THIRD WAVE
An amazing personal experience DV documentary on the rebuilding of a village in Bangladesh after a tsunami.  I used grain surgery, timed in FCP and then sharpened in After Effects to get to the screen.
SINGLE TRACKS
Dr.An Dinhs' personal HDV movie about his life and marriage breakup. Lots of effects like soft masked b&w, slow motion, recompose and FCP color correction.
HOPE AND SUGAR
Tanuja Chandra directed this love story of romance between a Islamic guy and a Hindu gal just after 2001.Produced in lush color by Scott Pardo the film played in India and Pakistan. After Effects and Final Cut Pro captured the rich color palette.
VERY YOUNG GIRLS
DV feature documentary on the sex trade with young girls on camera and in the street. Needed lots of grain surgery, color timing and sharpening

Beautifully shoot story of Life in Compton where the gangs want you. After Effects does it all.
DESTINATION FAME
Before the big hit 'high school musical' was this high school pop music group movie. The kids were trying to be the next big 'N SYNC style group. Good songs with a teenage storyline. Final Cut Pro was used for color correction with After Effects curves on some sections.
I LIKE KILLING FLIES is a  portrait of Kenny Shopsin, of the  Greenwich Village eatery that bears his name. I used After Effects' Grain Surgery, Levels with keyframes and finally sharpening.
39 LBS OF LOVE is the inspirational and humorous non-fiction account of a remarkable man Ami Ankilewitz who was diagnosed with SMA/2, a condition that severely limits his physical growth and movement. Grain Surgery and After Effects Levels with key frames and curves to make this beautiful.

I scanned the original 35mm and curved out a differences in red in After Effects.

UNKNOWN SOLDIER
starring Carl Louis and directed and produced by Ferenc Toth, the film tied for 'Best Feature Film' Jury Award at Philadelphia Intl. Film Festival. The film was color timed with keyframed curves and levels in After Effects.

A 50's story of abuse of foster children.
Great shooting with lots of color of the era. After Effects makes it all look great.
SOCIAL GRACE 'EAST BROADWAY'
BD Wong directed Fay Ann Lee in this romantic story of social conventions shot in beautiful 35mm. Transfered to SGI files and timed in After Effects, the movie looks exquisite on the big screen
REMEDY
A great story of a group of friends  sharing their drug and sex vices and ruining their lives. Nicely shoot with great performances.

Tommy plays a psycho killer of women who gets his comeuppances. Well shot and finished with After Effects.
Swamy Kandan's " Catch Your Mind", a film about peer pressure, young love and teenage angst.  Timed and Sharpened in After Effects.
AWAKENING APHRODITE
Lance shot this nice story on women re-discovering their sexuality thru these special workshops.To be discreet many workshop scenes are dark but you get the idea anyway. Sometimes, the story works better that way too. Final cut with After Effects along.
WAR
After the BIG WAR nothing works. I scanned all the selected 16mm rolls and then the crew dust busted the B&W large jpegs. I test scanned each shot to get the optimum exposure. Finally I retimed the clean files in After Effects and output to 35mm for a Sundance Festival.

Nice black and white story about a girl who has Agoraphobia, the inability to go outside and leave your apartment. After Effects curves and levels create a beautiful B&W look.

Great story of justice delivered. Scanned all the footage then sharpened and timed the output in after effects.Here's the scan from the negative of the TWA terminal. The big window is curved in and key framed using After Effects.

Paul Rudd plays a desperate actor who must get a job or kill himself in a video. A great satire on Hollywood and characters.

The artist Jordan Wolfson floats a cable camera thru the summer forest outside of Berlin. Very beautiful and peaceful. I used algolith for noise reduction and sharpening.
SION COMMERCIAL
made for TV, converted later to film. The commercial looks like it was shot for the big screen. The source was 2k files.
After effects handles the final set up.

Made from 2k files, this commercial has great color. Brought to the screen by After Effects.

Personal photo-cartoon requiring exact exposures to deal with dot screened art.

WHAT IS IT?
Crispen Glovers' American Satiricon. Shoot in 16mm negative, scanned to large jpegs and fixed in After Effects.
Sigmund Freuds' "DORA".
The artist Anthony McCall asked us to restore a film he did in the late 70's. It had been projected hundreds of times! After scanning it to files, I used After Effects' vector paint to rotoscope all the dirt and scratches away and then make a new beautiful print.
SIDEWALK SISTERS
A very sad Documentary from Turkey of family tragedy living across the hall. I used After Effects with keyframed levels and curves for color correction and scaling.
BIG AIN'T BAD
BetaTape source was a masked 16x9 so we had wished the producers had taken the title to heart and made an anamorphic version instead. Otherwise a funny sex comedy that After Effects sharpened and scaled.
El VACILON
Latino satire on everything Latino. Lots of composite effects like warps and wire removal.
Color timed in After Effects.
CROW (also in the 3D computer page)
I animated a 3D Crow who recites the hours of the day in sync. We shoot the bird with twelve cameras all in sync. Then the crow was composited into various outdoor locations.

VISIONARE ART
1000 limited edition set of frames of motion picture film of an Italian pornographic cartoon from the 70's inserted in the Art Collectors periodical 'Visionare'. Frames were shot in vistavision on a special stand and the print was cut into four frame clips then mounted into 8x10 contact sleeves.
